Town / gateway

Arusha

Our home and the gateway to the northern parks
Mount Meru seen from Arusha in the afternoon

Arusha sits at the foot of Mount Meru and is the starting point for safaris to Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, and for Kilimanjaro climbs. It is where our office and our vehicles are based.

Most travellers fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), about an hour’s drive east of Arusha. Domestic flights to the Serengeti, Zanzibar and the southern parks leave from the smaller Arusha Airport (ARK) on the west side of town.

Before or after your safari

  • Coffee farm visits on the slopes of Mount Meru.
  • The Maasai market and the central market.
  • Arusha National Park, 45 minutes away, for a walking safari or canoeing.
  • Materuni waterfalls and the Chemka hot springs, both easy day trips.

At around 1,400 m, Arusha has a mild climate all year, with cool evenings in June and July.
